

When I started to investigate how I might accomplish this, I opened Microsoft® Office Word 2000 and began to experiment.

I figured that producing the book in XML would allow me to reuse the content elsewhere, transform the content into different output formats, and make it easy to manipulate with myriad XML technologies including XPath, XSLT, the various XML APIs, and possibly even XQuery. Several years ago I began a new book project and decided to write the entire project in XML.
