Roxio has also enhanced its Sound Editor module, which is now in a class with Nero's modest audio editor. This inconsistency isn't entirely a bad thing, since Sonic's interface is easily as intuitive as Roxio's and, in the case of MyDVD Slideshow, represents a significant improvement over VideoWave. None comply with the otherwise-ubiquitous Roxio look-and-feel, although all are fully integrated into the suite's welcoming front-end menu system. There's also a hardware-independent copy of Nic Wilson's outstanding DVDINFOPro program ( which performs a broad range of sophisticated optical drive and media analysis functions.Īlthough none of these modules perform functions critical enough to make or break the suite, all are top-notch implementations that compete effectively with standalone applications. Roxio also throws in a copy of Sonic's CinePlayer movie playback utility, which, unlike Version 7's Roxio Player, can play discs that were not created with Roxio software. As its name suggests, this component is actually a special version of Sonic's MyDVD 6 authoring application, here constrained to create only slide show discs-and to which has been added sought-after pan-and-zoom capabilities.ĮMC 7.5 also includes a copy of the Backup MyPC Deluxe 6.0, which offers local and network backup, password protection, unattended scheduling capabilities, and the ability to back up "busy" system files in use by the operating system. VideoWave is essentially unchanged in EMC 7.5, but Roxio has added a new MyDVD Slideshow module that provides an easier-to-use alternative for slide show creation. One of our biggest criticisms of EMC 7 was the cumbersome interface employed by its otherwise powerful VideoWave 7 slide show creator/video editor.
Regardless of their origins, the new modules are some of the most successful components in the suite and help EMC 7.5 regain the throne. The majority of the suite's components remain virtually unchanged in this latest release, and most of the new modules have either been borrowed from Sonic's MyDVD line or are based on wizards that extract new functionality from existing Roxio applications. Roxio (now a division of Sonic Solutions) has struck back with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5.
